The Troubadour Chronicles is a songwriting journal that records my experiences touring around the world. It's not just all about me though. The best songs are those about the weird and wonderful characters I met, and the local issues I heard about, be it building a wind farm or fighting local developers. It's also a record of the times with stories from the newspapers I read while waiting for a bus.
I travelled by bicycle, boat, train, plane and automobile. With friends, musicians and by myself. Around Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia. Couchsurfed with over 200 people. Some of the songs were recorded on the spot, others later in a studio with more musicians. I'd like to go back and record them all again, but then the story would lose it's arc. I hope you can hear how I changed during the experience. Inevitable really. Negative sardonic songs came easy back then. Now I prefer a positive message.
The Chronicles is spread over 8 discs and last over 5 hours, which is more Jack Stafford then anyone should be forced to bear. I certainly wouldn't recommend listening to it in one sitting. Take it slow. As I wish I had done.
